Fri, 25 Nov 2022 01:00:17 GMT 8:11

These bitesize episodes focus on the greatest lessons we’ve learnt from the guests we've had on the podcast.

This week we jump back to episode 107 with bestselling author, motivational speaker, podcast host and self-proclaimed “spirit junkie” Gabby Bernstein. Gabby shared with us her process of overcoming trauma. One effective exercise she described was ‘Rage on a Page’, based in the teachings of Dr John Sarno who wrote a lot about how our physical conditions are psychosomatic.

Gabby’s ‘Rage on the Page’ practice sees you play bilateral music, which stimulates both sides of your brain, turn off all distractions and write out everything on your mind, dumping your sub-conscious fears.

E162 - World Cup Roundtable: Rio Ferdinand, Peter Crouch & Joe Cole

Mon, 21 Nov 2022 01:00:34 GMT 1:03:18

This week Jake and Damian are hosting a World Cup Special Roundtable with football legends, Rio Ferdinand, Peter Crouch and Joe Cole discussing what it's really like pulling on an England shirt. In this episode they discuss the differences between their generation and the current England team and how the lack of structure and leadership in their tactics and team affected their results.

Rio, Peter and Joe reflect on the beginning of their careers, discussing the struggle of coming to terms with such an amazing achievement and the pressure that comes along with it. The media portrayed them as the ‘Golden Generation’, they explore what went so wrong and why the label was, ultimately, very damaging.

The boys express how they feel about the upcoming World Cup and their fundamental trust in Gareth Southgate.

E159 - Sam Tomkins: What comes easy, doesn’t last. What lasts, doesn’t come easy

Sat, 05 Nov 2022 00:24:14 GMT 1:28:46

In the last of our short series, inspired by the Rugby League World Cup, we're joined by the humble, hard-working and high-performing Sam Tomkins, the captain and talisman of England’s men’s team who are aiming to win the coveted trophy later this month.

In Sam Walker’s brilliant book, Captain Class, he identified that the best teams have great captains, those who play on the edge, make others better and step up at crucial moments. Sam is certainly a leader who does this and much more but, as he explained to us, this has not come easily.

He was never identified as a great talent, having to pay to play at Wigan Warriors whilst holding down a full-time job as a green-keeper at a local golf course. Whilst he was there, he refused to compromise and kept his dream of representing his boyhood team alive. His willingness to do the work in the shadows, the hard, relentless grind in the toughest of sports distinguished him and prepared him for the moment when luck met opportunity and he got his shot.

Sam was a central figure in Wigan’s renaissance, winning Grand Finals and Challenge Cups before deciding to stretch his horizons and test himself in New Zealand. He returned to Wigan and led them to further glory before once again, being stepping outside his comfort zone by moving to France with Catalan Dragons.

Sam’s story is packed with incredible lessons, inspiring messages and insightful observations from his climb to the summit of world sport.

Brian Pennie: How to Pause and Create Space During Emotionally Challenging Events | HP Circle

Fri, 04 Nov 2022 01:00:58 GMT 7:12

This month on the High Performance Circle we speak to the incredible Brian Pennie. On October 8 2013, Brian experienced his first day clean after 15 years of chronic heroin addiction. Since embracing his second chance at life, he has become a doctor of neuroscience and psychology.

Whether it's our career, our relationships, our health, or more global concerns, we all face challenges in life. However, this is not where our struggles lie. Our struggles lie in our reaction to these challenges, and our illusion that we can control them.

Through personal anecdotes, science, and wisdom from Eastern philosophy, Brian’s Keynote will focus on how to accept what you cannot control and create space in difficult times.
